What should not come as a major shock, Dwight Howard does not fit into the Memphis Grizzlies’ long term plans. So little does he fit with those plans that according to Omari Sankofa II of The Athletic, the team doesn’t not plan on keeping the recently acquired eight-time All-Star. Sankofa II adds the acquisition was “purely money-saving maneuver.”
Howard, appeared in a mere nine games this past season for the Washington Wizards, and averaged 12.8 points and 9.2 rebounds per in that limited time.
As Howard now moves through is fifth organization in just the past four seasons, it is unclear as what the future holds for him. As the league shows no signs of ending its over infatuation with large men shooting threes (something Howard does not do) rather than patrolling the paint, where does that leave Howard? He can still be a productive player when healthy as when he was last had his health in 2017-18, with the Charlotte Hornets, he posted 16.6 points, 12.5 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game. As Howard has opted in to his $ 5.6 million player option for the upcoming season, his services can be had for a very reasonable cap number.
